I have to start with Historic Smithville because it’s the place I keep coming back to, and that old-fashioned charm is the anchor for everything else here. You can spend the morning watching the trains loop past the shops, then walk into a place like Celina’s for that clam corn chowder, and finish with a spin wheel shot of luck at Jasmine.

We’ve got everything from a pet bakery selling 24 handmade cookies for five bucks to a kitchen run by three chefs with three cuisines, so the range is real. I’ve eaten my way through the towne square more times than I can count, and the turkey on rye alone is worth the trip.

Go ahead, take a look at the list.

Historic Smithville

Historic Smithville
Highlights
Historic charm and warm memories
Unique shops and Irish store
Family fun with carousel and trains
Great for dogs and friends

I have to start with Historic Smithville because it's the place I keep coming back to. The old-fashioned charm hits you the moment you walk in, and it's impossible not to feel a warm sense of nostalgia. I wandered through the unique shops, and the Irish store really caught my eye. The carousel and trains are perfect for a family afternoon, and my dog was more than welcome, which meant a lot to me. Friends and I grabbed a bite at one of the cafes, and we just sat and talked for hours. It's not a single restaurant, but the whole experience makes it a cornerstone of any food trip in Smithville.

Varied and accommodating menu

Celina's Mulberry Market & Grille won me over with the freshly roasted turkey on rye. It's simple, but the turkey was so moist and flavorful that I didn't want it to end. The homemade clam corn chowder was thick, rich, and exactly what I needed on a cool day. I also appreciated that they cooked everything to my dietary needs without any fuss. The chocolate dessert was generously sized, and I only managed half, but that was a happy problem. The menu is varied and accommodating, so whether you're with picky eaters or adventurous ones, you'll find a spot here.

Village Greene is the kind of place where you plan to stay for an hour and end up staying all day. I started with a cocktail that was unlike anything I'd had before, and the food matched that creativity. The atmosphere is communal and welcoming, so I ended up chatting with a couple at the next table about their favorite dishes. After eating, I wandered into the shops and found handmade goods that made perfect gifts. The whole area is easy to walk, so you don't have to move your car once you're there. It's a full day destination, and I mean that in the best way.

Jasmine surprised me in the best way. The food and service are top tier, and I could tell from the moment I sat down that they care about details. The owner personally stopped by our table to ask how everything was, which felt special. They have a spin wheel that offers fun prizes, and we all took a turn. The kitchen is run by three chefs who each bring their own cuisine, so the menu is a wild mix, and it all works. I went on a Sunday and tried the buffet, which had so much variety that I couldn't decide what to eat first. I'll be back.

Hangtime Bar and Grille is a place I'll definitely revisit. The Hangtime Burger was juicy and amazing, exactly what you want from a burger that's named after the spot. But what really impressed me were the complex flavor combinations in the other dishes. I tried something with a sauce that I couldn't quite place, but it was delicious. The staff were friendly and made the whole place feel relaxed. I also had a local cherry beer that was refreshing and not too sweet, a perfect match for the meal. Napoli Pizza Grill knows what they're doing. I tried the eggplant, and it was hands down the best I've had in South Jersey. The kitchen is run by real Italian cooks, and you can taste the difference. Serena, our server, was incredibly accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. The portions are generous, and I left with leftovers that I enjoyed the next day. The pizza is solid, too, but the eggplant is the star. If you're craving Italian that feels honest and hearty, this is your place.
