Wilmington doesn’t parade its best food. It hides it.

One block serves a tender, gravy-drenched plate of pure comfort. Another pulls off a lavender cocktail that makes you reconsider everything.

You can chase a perfect sear on scallops or a half-price plate of silky, house-made pasta. The spread here ranges from a dining room with Titanic-level grandeur to a corner spot where the jerk chicken arrives with warm, family-like service.

Compare the polish of Le Cavalier against the soul of Hummingbird. Both win.

That’s the trick. Read on.

Your stomach will thank you.

Snuff Mill pairs a cozy, intimate setting with genuinely inventive plates. The butterfly cocktail, a lavender-infused creation, was a delicate, fragrant start. The scallops, however, stole the show—fresh, sweet, and seared to a perfect golden edge. Brian, behind the bar, crafts each drink with clear care and precision. The cardamom cream dessert ended the evening on a soft, spiced note that felt both familiar and new. The warmth of the room made the whole experience feel personal, like dining among friends. I will be back for that cocktail and those scallops. The ambiance alone justifies a return visit.

Steak cooked perfectly
Service was outstanding
Sara was wonderful
Bar selections plentiful
Surcharge caused controversy

Chelsea Tavern presents a classic dilemma: excellent food, controversial service details. My steak arrived cooked exactly as requested, a perfect medium-rare with a robust char. The bar boasts an impressive, well-curated selection, and our server, Sara, was genuinely attentive and warm. However, a mysterious surcharge appeared on the bill without prior explanation. That left a bitter residue on an otherwise stellar meal. The quality of the steak and the breadth of the drinks are undeniable. Yet, transparency matters. I would return for the food, but I will be scrutinizing the check carefully. A notable flaw in an otherwise strong performance.

Their steak Alfredo with garlic bread is an unexpected but brilliant combination; the garlic bread soaks up the rich sauce perfectly. Happy hour here is a serious bargain, with well-crafted drinks at fair prices. For a lighter moment, the bowling alley adds a quirky, fun layer to the evening. Xavier, our server, was efficient and personable, ensuring everything ran smoothly. This is a spot that knows how to have fun with food. I left grinning.
