Red Bank’s bar scene is less a map and more a choose-your-own-adventure, and this roundup proves it. You can sidle up to a hand-pumped pub ale while Sunday jazz rolls through Triumph, then cross town to a place where the cacio e pepe polenta at Catezza makes you close your eyes.

The spread here runs from the pay-what-you-can warmth of JBJ Soul Kitchen to the tailored, cigar-lounge polish of Le Malt Royale, each one staffed by people who actually seem to like their jobs. And yes, I have a soft spot for Zack at Dublin House, who made a pot pie feel like a standing reservation.

So whether you are plotting a birthday dinner or just need a stiff pour after work, the only hard part is choosing a starting point. Here is where to begin.

Cozy upstairs seating

I walked into Dublin House on a chilly evening and immediately felt the pull of the upstairs seating, cozy as a quilt your grandmother made. Zack, our server, moved through the room with such attentive grace that I almost felt like a regular by the time my drink arrived. The fish and chips arrived golden and shattering, the cod so flaky it seemed to dissolve before I could chew, and the chips were perfection in every salty, crispy way. Then came the chicken pot pie, a bubbling bowl of comfort that made me want to cancel all my plans for the week. I am already plotting my return, and I suspect this place will become a habit I will not bother breaking.

Nicholas Barrel & Roost does holiday décor like it is competing for an award, and honestly, it should win. The place sparkles and glows in a way that makes you feel like a child on Christmas morning, and the brunch is worth every minute of the drive. My cocktail packed a punch, a bold pour that warmed me from the inside out, and the service handled the busy crowd with practiced ease. But the real showstoppers were the desserts, each one a miniature masterpiece that made me want to applaud. I went for the savory options first, but next time I am starting with dessert because who needs rules anyway? This is a spot that knows how to celebrate, and I am grateful to have been invited to the party.
