Lancaster doesn't do half-hearted appetizers, and thank goodness for that. You can start your night with LUCA's rosemary-crisped potatoes, a study in fine-dining precision, then pivot to Diyo Fusion's plump, juicy momos that beat anything I've had in bigger cities.

From Iron Hill's beer-cheese-slathered pretzel to Blue Collar's squeaky, transcendent cheese curds, the range here is genuinely absurd. Norbu's ginger chicken fritters will crackle in your memory for weeks.

Don't let the unassuming storefronts fool you; this county plays for keeps. Dig in, order the Ema Datsi, and blame me later.

Highlights
Ginger chicken fritters shine
Shabaley beef patties impress
Fear the Ema Datsi
Mango lassi light and amazing
Helpful staff, memorable heat

Norbu Lancaster does not mess around when it comes to first acts. The ginger chicken fritters arrive with a crackle that announces their superiority, each bite a crisp, aromatic punch. The shabaley beef patties are equally impressive, all warm spice and flaky resistance. But let me warn you: fear the Ema Datsi. This is not a garnish. It is a dare. One spoonful and your sinuses will file a formal complaint. The mango lassi is light, amazing, and a necessary fire extinguisher. Staff are genuinely helpful, steering you through the heat with a knowing grin. This is where appetizers become events.

Bavarian pretzel earns praise
Fish tacos loved completely
Nachos fantastic for starters
Beer samples impress guests
Service shines despite waits

Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant proves that a brewpub can actually cook. The Bavarian pretzel earns its praise: golden-brown, salted with confidence, served with a beer cheese that clings like a loyal friend. The fish tacos are loved completely, and I get it. They are bright, crunchy, and unapologetically messy. The nachos are fantastic for starters, a towering mess of cheese, jalapeños, and everything right. Beer samples impress the guests, who suddenly become experts on hops. Service shines despite waits, which says more than the food does. You will wait, but you will forgive. You might even thank them.

Highlights
Lamb tagine pull-apart tender
Incredibly rich, flavorful sauce
Saffron rice with yogurt
Highly recommend, absolutely delicious

Flavors of Morocco inside Southern Market is a sleeper hit, the kind of place that makes you question every other Moroccan dish you have endured. The lamb tagine is pull-apart tender, surrendering without a fight. The sauce is incredibly rich, deeply flavorful, and I would bathe in it if society allowed. Saffron rice with yogurt provides the perfect counterbalance, each grain fragrant and impossibly light. I highly recommend this absolutely delicious experience, but bring patience. The line moves, but the reward is worth the shuffle. Do not skip the appetizer portion. You will regret it if you do.

Crunchy chicken, moist inside
Portobello burger, homemade chips
Friendly staff, tasty beers
Weekly chalkboard specials
Better than Hunger & Thirst

Cartel Brewing & Blending happily outranks Hunger & Thirst, and that is not a compliment to Hunger & Thirst. The crunchy chicken arrives moist inside, a textural paradox that works. The portobello burger, paired with homemade chips, is a vegetarian triumph that meat-eaters secretly envy. Staff are friendly, and the beers are tasty, especially when paired with weekly chalkboard specials that rotate faster than my patience. This is unpretentious excellence. The portions are generous, the flavors honest. Skip the pretenders and park yourself here. Your taste buds will send you a thank-you note.

LUCA operates on a different plane of appetizer existence. The small plates are perfectly balanced and complex in ways that feel both effortless and meticulously engineered. Chefs are visible, and watching them work is part of the performance. The crispy potatoes with rosemary are brilliance itself, each cube a study in crunch and herbaceous depth. The smoked squash achieves smoky perfection, a subtle burn that lingers. Cocktails and house wine are exceptional. Do not come here for large portions. Come here for precision, for flavor architecture. You will leave impressed, slightly humbled, and plotting your return.

Best momos ever had
Generous portions, authentic flavors
Welcoming, attentive service
Incredible $12 buffet deal
Fresh, perfectly baked naan

Diyo Fusion lays claim to the best momos I have ever had, and I have had a lot. These little dumplings are plump, juicy, and wrapped in a dough that does not quit. Generous portions meet authentic flavors that taste like someone's grandmother is in the back, even if she is not. The $12 buffet deal is incredible, bordering on irresponsible. Fresh, perfectly baked naan arrives warm and supple, the kind that makes you forget bread can be disappointing. Service is welcoming and attentive. This place deserves a line out the door. It will get one soon.

The Conway Room is a venue that understands the art of the appetizer as a prelude to celebration. It is perfect for private events, the kind of place where every detail whispers competence. The service team is exceptional and attentive, moving with a choreography that never feels intrusive. Food arrives beautifully presented and delicious, each bite a small argument for staying longer. Planning and execution were seamless, which is rare enough to mention. If you have an intimate celebration, book this room. Your guests will think you hired a professional. You did.

Highlights
Salmon arrives undercooked
Service strained when busy
Hot water costs extra
Boyfriend's plate wins
Dessert redeems the meal

C'est La Vie, you are a test of patience. My salmon arrived undercooked, which is a bold choice for a dish that should not be served raw unless it is sashimi. Service strained when busy, and hot water costs extra, which feels like a personal attack. My boyfriend's plate, however, won the evening, and yes, I am bitter. The dessert redeemed the meal, a sugary apology that almost worked. If you go, order anything but the salmon. And bring your own hot water. I will not be returning without a pre-game snack.

Exceptional paneer and cauliflower
Thoughtful staff, complimentary sauce
Clear vegan and gluten-free labels
Indian and Nepali menu options

Himalayan Curry & Grill is the neighborhood hero we do not deserve. Generous portions meet fair prices, and the paneer is exceptional, a soft, pillowy slab of dairy excellence. The cauliflower does not just exist; it performs, roasted with a char that demands applause. Thoughtful staff offer a complimentary sauce that I would pay for. Clear vegan and gluten-free labels make ordering a breeze, a rarity in this town. Indian and Nepali options mean you can start with momos and end with curry. Every appetizer here is a reminder that simple food, done right, wins.

Highlights
Best cheese curds ever
Philly eggrolls crunchy perfection
Apricot bacon pizza wins
Smoked cocktails worth trying
Top-notch service consistently

Blue Collar Restaurant, Bar & Catering is the champion of starters. The cheese curds are the best I have ever encountered, and I have crossed state lines for lesser versions. They squeak, they stretch, they vanish. Philly eggrolls are crunchy perfection, a clever mashup that respects both cuisines. The apricot bacon pizza wins, sweet and smoky in a way that should not work but absolutely does. Smoked cocktails are worth trying, though they may steal the show. Service is top-notch consistently. Come hungry, leave argumentative about who gets the last curd.

Cork Factory Hotel at Urban Place

Cork Factory Hotel at Urban Place
Highlights
Attentive, caring, genuinely concerned staff
Excellent food and clean accommodations
Proactive storm and safety planning
Seamless wedding coordination and execution
Unmatched professionalism and generosity

Cork Factory Hotel at Urban Place is not just a venue; it is a safety net. The staff were attentive, caring, and genuinely concerned about our experience, even when a storm threatened to ruin everything. They had a proactive plan, and they executed it without breaking a sweat. Food was excellent, and the accommodations were clean, which sounds basic but is shockingly rare. Wedding coordination was seamless. Unmatched professionalism and generosity made us feel like VIPs. The appetizers were lovely, but the service stole the show. I would trust these people with my wedding, my birthday, and my emergency contact.

MADE Bistro Bar

MADE Bistro Bar

Ideal for hotel guests and locals

MADE Bistro Bar is the new kid on the block, and it is showing off. The dining room is beautiful, clean, and brand-new, the kind of space that makes you feel like you are getting away with something. Staff are friendly, courteous, and attentive without hovering. Portions are generous at prices that do not induce panic. The menu offerings are tasty and well-prepared, a reliable start to any evening. Ideal for hotel guests and locals alike, though I would rather be a local. It is a solid, unpretentious place where appetizers come fast and leave you satisfied. No drama, just good food.
